About the artist:
From her studio in Hastings, Melissa White creates a variety of
decorative artwork under the name of Fairlyte Hand Painted Interiors.
She studied art history at Birmingham University then went on to explore
Elizabethan interior decoration. She paints to commission reproducing
sixteenth century and other historic designs on textiles, plaster and
furniture.
Melissa’s wall painting research led to a love of worn, faded and
crumbling surfaces and she responded by developing a unique
technique to capture the timeless appeal of aged interiors. Her “fresco
secco” panels are made by applying plaster to hessian upon which she
paints beautiful designs. The flexible surface allows for cracking and
distressing before the final piece is waxed and mounted on board giving
the appearance of a salvaged fragment of old wall.
