About the artist:

Robin Thompson began serious painting in his late fifties. Much of his

work relates strongly to his working experience as a town planner:

analysing the nature of cities and of countryside. His work often takes a

birds-eye view, which allows him to “map” built forms – how they sit in

space and how they change – and explore the dynamics of the places

we live in.

He works predominantly in oils, but often uses wax as a means of

conveying the fluidity and change in cityscapes and landscapes. His

work also incorporates mixed media to convey the physicality and

vulnerability of the everyday world at a time of precarious change.

Robin Thompson studies fine art at Hastings College of Art and Design

and has exhibited in shows at the Hastings Art Forum, Cranbrook

Library, Tunbridge Wells , East Grinstead and the Hastings College

annual student exhibition. He participated in Open Studio at his home in

Sissinghurst in 2007 and 2009.
